The group, consisting of five string players, a pianist and a percussion player was established by Debbie Brink in May 2000. They mostly performed popular music as well as light classical music.
For 4 consecutive years the group competed at the Stellenbosch Chamber music Competition and in 2005 they won the Classical section and won most of the individual prizes. They also walked away as overall winners of the competition.
The group performs annually at the Free State Eisteddfod and receives numerous golden awards. In 2001 and 2005 they combined with Oranje Meisieskool to for the Grey-Oranje orchestra which received numerous standing oviations. During 2002 the ensemble appeared on KYKNET in a program about young upcoming musicians of South Africa. They recorded a CD in 2004 which comprised all their favourite songs.
In 2007 Celeste Venter took over the new ensemble. The group has already grown and shows the potential to follow in the footsteps of their predecessors. They will again be competing in the Stellenbosch competition in 2008.
