Up to now it has been an enjoyable year in Leith House.
The prefects, under the leadership of William Small-Smith and Nicol Linde, are doing a perfect job, and I would like to thank them for that. The matrics are playing a major role in creating an atmosphere where every Leith House resident can feel at home. The grade 11 pupils have settled in nicely and are making a positive contribution to the hostel.
We really want to create an environment of mutual trust and responsibility so that we can limit
the transgressions and punishment to the minimum. Boys will be boys – and that’s the way it must stay. Boys will always take chances to test the boundaries – that we can accept, but they also know that they will have to bear the consequences of their actions.
Neat and tidy rooms will also be an issue, but that it is non negotiable (I must add that some learners struggle with this). Punctuality is very important and we are very strict when it comes to wake-up bells and study sessions.
The Leith House boys are happy at the moment. The boys braai, music is loud and boys are singing in the showers. It remains our responsibility to create a relaxed but disciplined atmosphere in the hostel.
We do our best to keep the hostel in a good condition. One of our priorities is te ensure that the bathrooms are always clean and hygienic. It is also the responsibility of the boys to take care of the hostel, therefore the boys will unfortunately, have to pay for any breakages caused by them.
Tannie Lana would like to thank all the boys whose rooms are neat and tidy every day, also those who report breakages immediately – “Thanks for making my life enjoyable in Leith House”!
Parents please talk to me if there are issues bothering you as parents. You are always welcome to come for a cup of tea at my house.
