Grey College Rugby

The first half of the 2010 rugby season has been completed. Grey can feel satisfied with what has been achieved, although we can never become complacent and need to constantly improve on our performances.

The first team and some other teams are is still unbeaten and we have to always remind ourselves that we have to stay humble and guard against any form of arrogance. There are a few tough encounters coming up and we cannot afford to rest on our laurels and just expect to win.

A special effort has gone into our coaching this year to ensure that the coaches are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to coach effectively and with confidence. There is no dream team at Grey that receives preferential treatment, as a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Whether a player represents the u/14 F team or the first team does not make a difference to our approach to this wonderful game. We expect quality coaching for all 28 rugby teams; there will be no compromise. Our coaches meet regularly to discuss strategies, new trends in coaching and other relevant issues.

We are fortunate that the number of boys playing rugby has increased during the last few years. The problem; however, is that some teams do not play enough matches during the season, which could have an impact on the players’ motivation to train. To prevent this coaches are endeavouring to arrange matches, not only in Bloemfontein, but also outside Bloemfontein.

Thank you for all the support we receive from parents, Old Boys and friends of the school.
We are looking forward to the second half of the season and hope that you keep supporting Grey College and all its activities.

TO ALL THE GREY COLLEGE FIRST TEAM RUGBY PLAYERS

We are still in the process of collecting memorabilia for the first team dressing room to ensure that this facility reflects Grey College’s rich rugby heritage and wonderful character.

We received a positive response to our SMS sent out in 2009 regarding ex-players donating their personal souvenirs; however, we would like an even better response in 2010. The dressing room will eventually have a rugby museum atmosphere, which will remind everyone of our rugby legacy.

Please be so kind as to assist me by donating more memorabilia with a story to tell. You could send a photo, jersey or any related article.

Please contact me to arrange to get the item to me at your earliest convenience.

This letter also serves as an open invitation to you to visit the change room whenever you are in Bloemfontein.

I am eagerly awaiting your response.
